The Wedding Cake of our Dreams

MELISSA & KEITH

The background

Imagine this: I get an inquiry from a potential bride with the email “foxdenbakingco@gmail.com” which made me wonder. I look it up - and wouldn’t you know it - this potential bride is a BAKER and does WEDDING CAKES! I got all excited and we talked about it in our initial consultation. AND she was getting married at the Standard (which is our favorite venue). When Melissa booked with us, we knew this was going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. With the help of her mom, Glenda, we let our planning process begin!

The vendors

On May 14th, we had a dream team of vendors get together for Melissa and Keith’s wedding. I picked up the Welcome mirror from Brittany Ivey Designs the day before and Kim from the Northshore Kroger added some floral to the sign and the rest of the venue. Southern Sirens arrived bright and early to do hair and make up for the girls in the gigantic bridal suite at The Standard. Single Barrel Events set up a bar and Sweet P’s BBQ set up a buffet and after dinner, Exemplar Sound and Tickled Orange Photo Booth kept the party going all night. And of course, B Sloan Photography came to take pictures of it all.

We even had a last minute wedding-day emergency that All Occasions Party Rentals helped us with. We were missing our clear water goblets and Glenda and I realized it turned out that they never made it onto our order form. But in a last minute attempt, we called around and AOPR saved the day and brought up some racks to complete our place settings with a glass goblet. Melissa was none the wiser, too until we went to lunch after their honeymoon and I told her, to which she laughed out loud and said she had no idea that happened.

The cakes

When you do the wedding of a wedding baker, you better believe she is going to go all out when it comes to her wedding cake. Melissa created a four-tier lemon cake with raspberry filling for the centerpiece of the event. A work of art that required a ladder to climb up to cut. She also made a two-tier cookies and cream groom’s cake to give a couple flavor options. And what dessert spread would be complete without an arrangement of macarons of many flavors.

And Now…

One of the best parts of working Melissa and Keith’s wedding other than forming new friendships, I also got the opportunity to foster a new work relationship that has lead to us working many more weddings together. Melissa’s cakes have quickly become my favorite cake bakers in the Knoxville area - which is saying something because I eat a lot of cake. If you are interested in wedding cakes, I would highly encourage you look into Fox Den Baking Co. and work with Melissa. You can tell her we sent you(:
